About…

Hello,

My name is Gina Farina. I am a self taught artist from Canada, and my love for art probably started with mud pies and Crayola markers. In 2025 I recieved my Diploma in Art from the University of Manitoba, where I originally planned to stay for their 4 year program (Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree); however, I found myself seeking the most valuable teachers of all, the wind, the waves, the woods, or whatever else is out there; God's creations and his word are the best teachers. Creating an artwork for me is not always about following my idea and how I plan to execute it; in fact, I enjoy coming up with an idea and disobeying it as much as possible. Often times art helps me see the truth. The creation process shines a light in the darkness so I can see where to place my feet. It is my way in the wilderness. In the beginning I carefully consider medium, but never let it’s definition define how I can use it. Ideas, I believe, can sometimes get in the way of experimentation and those happy accidents which can make a piece unique. I find that art grows, and is to be nurtured; whereas the University systems try to conform individuals to fit their mold. They invited teachings into their lessons that seem innocent at first but sinister in the ways that they steal people away from the truth and their purpose. I couldn't find God there, I only hoped to share him and his love with those I knew for the brief time I attended.

Many things contribute to and influence my work. Exploration and observation of the natural world (I grew up and currently live in a rural area), Christian faith teachings; and my own personal experiences all help my creative process. Most times, I make photorealistic artworks in graphite pencil, other times I use soft watercolor or vibrant colors in other mediums. Regardless of what medium I find myself experimenting with, I try to shine a light on one who may need it. I would not say that I focus my attention on any one medium, I love many and appreciate how many of them can be brought together or used separately.

As I continue to grow as an artist, I remain open to the endless possibilities and directions my work may take me. I cannot look at my work as a collection of separate or individualized pieces; they are all one together and I allow them to take the lead in my creative process. The time I spend with my work is comparable to a mother raising and being attentive to her child; I feel deeply connected and dedicated to my work and always do my best to bring whatever it is I create to life.
